Taccia Light Washed Jeans on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

In 2020, Taccia launched the Jeans collection, a range of inks inspired by the colour of jeans. This is the Light Washed Jeans ink from the collection.

The ink is a light, unsaturated blue with shading and no sheen. This is the second lightest ink in the Taccia Jeans ink series. It is readable but not a shade of blue that I like for writing. There is a bit of feathering and bleedthrough on Leuchtturm paper.

Ferris Wheel Press Pink Eraser on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

Ferris Wheel Press Pink Eraser is a lovely pink colour that does resembles the colour of pink erasers. It has shading and no sheen. I don’t like the dry flow of the ink which can cause the pen to feel scratchy on certain papers.

Taccia Dark Washed Jeans on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

In 2020, Taccia launched the Jeans collection, a range of inks inspired by the colour of jeans. This is the Dark Washed Jeans ink from the collection.

The ink is a dark blue / blue-black colour with shading and displays a noticeable red sheen on some papers. There is shading and a tiny bit of sheen on Leuchtturm paper, but it is difficult to see the sheen. The ink has a wet flow.

The ink takes a little more effort to clean as it leaves a bit of colour residue behind. I was not able to flush it away with water and had to use a cotton bud to gently scrub it away.

Rings of colour residue left behind in the pen body

This ink colour makes me think of a bruise. But not just an ordinary bruise, but a magnificent one ranging from deep purple to a blue so dark that it looked almost black. Because of its sheening properties, I think the ink will look good in a wet nib.

Monteverde Fireopal on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

Monteverde Fireopal is a fiery orange. The ink has an average flow. At first glance, it looks similar to Vinta Terracotta, but on closer inspection, there are differences in the shade and saturation. The colour makes me think of a fiery sunset.

Van Dieman’s Apricot on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

Apricot is from Van Dieman’s Harvest series which celebrates the colourful produce grown in Tasmania.

The ink is a pale orange that makes me think about pastoral sunsets and babies. I find this ink just about readable and obviously is more readable on white paper than cream-coloured paper. It shades well. However the high contrast between the light and dark areas can be distracting and hinders readability.

Paper

I managed to get a LEUCHTTURM1917 planner for a cheap price at the end of the year when shops are clearing the unsold 2020 planners. It used the same 80gsm paper found in LEUCHTTURM1917 notebooks so I decided to use it for writing samples.

Monteverde Sapphire on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

Monteverde Sapphire is a vibrant blue. It shades beautifully and has a wet flow. There is the tiniest bit of sheen in the darker areas where the ink had pooled, it is not obvious unless you are looking really hard. There is some bleedthrough on Leuchtturm1917 paper.

Monteverde Scotch Brown on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

Based on the name, I assumed Monteverde Scotch Brown will be the colour of whiskey. Instead the colour makes me think of chocolate and coffee. The ink has a wet flow and is easy to clean out of the pen. Personally, I find it difficult to use this ink for long because I keep having a craving for chocolate!

Diamine Prussian Blue on Leuchtturm1917

Ink

Diamine Prussian Blue is a unsaturated blue-black that feels a little on the dry side in a fine nib. It feels fine in a medium nib.

This wasn’t the colour that came to mind when I think of Prussian blue so I was a bit disappointed when I first used it. This colour made me think of old, faded jeans. After using it for a while, I started to enjoy the ink, as long as I no longer think of it as Prussian blue. I also felt it looked especially good when using for sketching.
